What is acute care?

Acute care includes medical services to address a short-term or urgent medical condition or injury. The goals of acute care are to assess your overall health and create a care plan that supports your full recovery.

LTH Family Medicine provides acute care for adults aged 18 and over through an online telemedicine platform. Kashaelyn can also meet with you in your home to evaluate your medical needs and recommend treatments to help you feel better.

When would I need acute care?

You can schedule a telemedicine or in-home acute care visit at LTH Family Medicine if you have an illness or injury that you can’t manage on your own.

Kashaelyn offers diagnostic evaluations and treatments for non-life-threatening conditions like:

  • Strep throat
  • High fever
  • Colds and flu
  • Ear infection
  • Sinus infection
  • Abdominal pain
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)

Acute care is also available for injuries like muscle sprains, ligament strains, cuts, and abrasions that occur from sports or unexpected events like falls.

If you have a severe wound or symptoms of a heart attack or other serious medical issues, call 911 or seek immediate care at the nearest hospital emergency room. Kashaelyn can provide after-care services following your hospital discharge.

What happens during an acute care visit?

During your acute care visit, Kashaelyn reviews your medical history and symptoms. She completes a physical exam and can order blood tests, throat cultures, or other lab work to diagnose your condition.

Kashaelyn can prescribe medications to ease pain or clear an underlying infection. She provides wound care services in your home to address minor cuts and abrasions, so you can avoid infection.

Advanced pain management services, including neurostimulation behind the ear, are available. Neurostimulation targets the vagus nerve to alleviate pain, gastrointestinal upset, and other acute symptoms.

Follow-up visits are available virtually or in your home so Kashaelyn can monitor your recovery. She can also recommend lifestyle changes you can make to improve your overall wellness and reduce your risk for additional injuries or illness. If your symptoms relate to a chronic health issue, Kashaelyn discusses your options for the chronic disease management services LTH Family Medicine offers.
